BRODIE

ADVENTURE GUIDE

NATIONALITY: Kiwi
LANGUAGE: English
GUIDE EXPERIENCE: New Zealand & Japan

Brodie also known as Bro, Brodo Baggins, The Thumb, and occasionally Neck grew up not far from Queenstown in a little town called Lumsden.

He loves Queenstown for its beauty, the endless amount of activities on offer and that it is close to home.

A sci-fi, fantasy with a twist of humour kind of guy, Brodie’s favourite shows are Rick and Morty, and Attack on Titan. Or so he says….we’ve got word that one of his favourite things to do in his downtime, is to watch reality TV with the Mrs.

KIRSTIN

MARKETING MANAGER

NATIONALITY: American
LANGUAGE: English

Kirstin, originally from Oregon, moved to New Zealand over 12 years ago as a sheep shearer…seriously! She moved to the Central Otago town of Omakau after earning a Bachelor of Animal Science from Montana State University. After working on Icebreaker merino stations, she worked for them in their US and NZ Head Offices building their global eCommerce business.

She and her husband have a 6kg furball named Doug who they adopted from Queenstown Cat Rescue and he’s the light of their world. She grew up showing Quarter Horses and hopes to add a few to her stable…she just needs a bigger backyard!

If she could only eat at one restaurant for the rest of her life – easy choice, Taco Medic!

Reneé

ADVENTURE GUIDE

NATIONALITY: Australian
LANGUAGE: English and some random words in Dutch & German
GUIDING EXPERIENCE: Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Canada

An adorer of nature and the outdoors, Reneé loves working out new ways to explore Earth’s incredible treasures. She loves teaching people how to find the joy in nature and the fun that can be had – hoping that it will inherently lead to a need to care for and respect it.

Renée’s hobbies include rock climbing, alpine hiking, canyoning (of course!), mountain biking, swimming and skiing.

Although naturally shy, Reneé pushes herself out of her comfort zone often. A self-declared bad dancer, she loves to dance and compensates for her lack of talent with abundant enthusiasm! After an epic dance sesh, you’ll find Reneé exhausted in bed watching legendary movie Ace Ventura and stuffing her face with salty popcorn.

EMILY

ADVENTURE GUIDE

Nationality: American
Language: English
Guiding Experience: USA & New Zealand

Emily is originally from Utah but has been spending the last couple of years living between Utah and Arizona, river guiding in the Grand Canyon.

New to Queenstown, Emily is loving the atmosphere, mountain views and the many good times to be had.

Growing up in the sand and the snow, Emily loves being outdoors and living the simple life.

A secret ping pong champ, Emily has confessed to being a pretty bad cook. Makes sense seeing as she is addicted to gas station hot dogs!

MELISSA

ADVENTURE GUIDE

Nationality: Swiss
Language: French, German & English
Guiding Experience: Switzerland & New Zealand

As a child, Melissa aspired to be an orca trainer (to free them into the wild) and also wanted to be in a circus. So naturally, this lead her to becoming an adventure guide!

Her favourite quote by John Muir is, “and into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul”. Quite fitting as Melissa loves nothing more than spontaneously packing all her cool toys into a van and hitting the road with a good CD blaring (yep, she still buys CD’s).

Her favourite book is Free Willy and her favourite indulgence is cake – preferably with toffee, vanilla or chocolate.

Melissa is also passionate about preserving the jungle and saving monkeys as well as getting kids out in nature and educating them on all things outdoors. New to Queenstown, Melissa is loving the view of the lake and The Remarkables that she is greeted with each morning, right from the comfort of her bed.

TESSA

ADVENTURE GUIDE

NATIONALITY: Dutch
LANGUAGES: Dutch, English, French, German y un poquito de espagnol
GUIDING EXPERIENCE: New Zealand

Tessa is loving the outdoor playground that is Queenstown and the wonderful people within it. She enjoys getting out of her comfort zone by ice climbing and believes that the ultimate attitude for the adventurer is best explained with the quote, “There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.”

Her favourite food is homemade lasagne, made with her father, and her special skill is opening jars – you know, the ones that no one else can open.

Word on the street is that Tessa is also a very talented harp player. We’re trying to find a harp for her so that we can hear her play!

Eve

Frontline agent

NATIONALITY: American/British
LANGUAGE: English

Eve grew up in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and spent the last 4 years working as a whitewater rafting guide. After spending 6 months in Italy and backpacking around Europe, Eve caught the infamous ‘travel bug and found herself in Queenstown. One of the first things she noticed about Queenstown is that it is impossible to find a bad view!

Addicted to hot wings and Italian food, Eve is on a mission to find the best in Queenstown. Make sure you ask her for her favourite spots to go.

Eve’s spirit animal is the ever loyal elephant and her favourite saying is, “A positive attitude can recreate your reality”.

PETE

ADVENTURE GUIDE

NATIONALITY: Australian
LANGUAGE: Bogan, Australian, English
GUIDING EXPERIENCE: New Zealand, Australia & USA

Pete is our token Aussie. Admitting that Bogan is his first language, followed by Australian and English, Pete came to Queenstown in search of the unknown and is totally in love with the cute little ducklings on the lakefront.

One of his favourite hobbies is dressing up cats as medieval knights or Santa Claws.

Make sure you hit him up for photos of his impressive and creative efforts. When Pete’s not at work, he’s at home on the couch with Pad Thai watching soap operas – his favourite being the Bold and Beautiful.

DEREK

ADVENTURE GUIDE

NATIONALITY: American
LANGUAGE: English & Spanish
GUIDING EXPERIENCE: USA, Costa Rica, New Zealand & Ecuador

Derek’s mate Pete suggested that he go to Queenstown and so he did, with a suitcase full of purple things and a giant smile.

Originally from Colorado, Derek spent some time in Central America as a humanitarian aid worker, helping to provide clean water and sanitation to those in rural Nicaragua.

Derek is into pretty much everything outdoorsy and is right in his element here in Queenstown. In his free time, you’ll find Derek looking for extreme outdoor adventures, gorging on strawberries and looking for soursop trees!

ALEX

ADVENTURE GUIDE

NATIONALITY: English – Kiwi
LANGUAGE: English, French, German
GUIDING EXPERIENCE: Switzerland, New Zealand & Japan

Alex, better known as The Machine, is British but claims that she is also part Kiwi. We convinced her to come to Queenstown by promising her beautiful canyons, sick mountain biking and incredible people. So far, we’re living up to her expectations!

On her days off you’ll find Alex hanging out with Bruce, her beloved bike, eating all the food (her exact words) and smashing the boys at the gym. Her six pack is waay better than theirs! She plays a mean flute, is slightly obsessed about peanut butter and passionate about hummus.

Interesting fact – Alex can’t stand watching or hearing people brush their teeth! Anyone got a toothbrush?!?

MIKE

ADVENTURE GUIDE

NATIONALITY: Kiwi
LANGUAGE: English
GUIDING EXPERIENCE: New Zealand, USA & Japan

Mike grew up in Edendale, about 2.5 hours south of Queenstown. A massive fan of kayaking, Mike was drawn to Queenstown for the world class kayaking, the amazing scenery and the fact that there are endless adventures to be had.

Mike has an extensive guiding career and has worked as a cave guide, kayak guide, canyoning guide and is also an outdoor instructor. He’s loves going on adventures and is passionate about sharing awesome experiences with others.

When Mike’s not at work, you’ll find him kayaking (of course), going out on missions and indulging in Kai Moana (Maori for seafood) delicacies like crayfish and scallops. We’re on a mission to get Mike to bust out the Maui rap from the movie Moana on every trip he goes on. Please help us by asking him to do it – after all, saying no to our guests would be rude!

Kaden

HEAD GUIDE

NATIONALITY: American
LANGUAGE: English
GUIDING EXPERIENCE: USA, New Zealand & Japan

Kaden is our Head Guide and is from Utah. He is super passionate about climbing, skiing, and most of all canyoning.

In his own words, he enjoys being super badass – if he is not enjoying the great outdoors then you will usually find him in the gym pumping some iron!

Kaden has been canyon guiding in the deserts of southern Utah (specifically Zion National Park) as well as Japan and of course New Zealand.

In 2015 he decided to chase the summer and came to (in his own words) “the most beautiful country in the Southern Hemisphere”. He’s been coming back ever since. Kaden’s fun fact is that his mom thinks he’s super rad, we tend to agree!

Amanda

Frontline Supervisor

NATIONALITY: Italian
LANGUAGE: English, Italian

Amanda grew up in a small Italian village, east of the Italian Alps, in Trentino. Amanda says it’s the best county in Italy for skiing and outdoor lovers and we believe her – she started skiing at 4 years old and was a ski racer until the age of 17!

Amanda was a ski instructor in Italy for a few seasons before travelling around Australia and then to Queenstown, where she decided to stay for the winter season. Like many others, she came for the winter and has stayed for the summer.

She loves a good chat and really enjoys helping people choose the perfect activity to make their time in Queenstown extra special. In her spare time, Amanda likes to travel and explore – from crowded cities to deserted beaches, she just loves discovering new places. She also loves a good barbie with her friends and beers in the sunshine!

RACHEL

Rachel has many talents including performing with maracas, dismantling and reassembling TV remotes, and preserving dreadlocks in formaldehyde.

When Rachel’s not at work, she likes to go to the lake to see how much water she can drink out of it before downing a Mexican salad with extra salsa. Make sure you ask Rachel where the best chicken wings in Queenstown are!

She loves Queenstown for all of its outdoor adventures, as well as being a great spot to people watch and hang out with the cute ducks (Andee is obsessed about the ducks!).

Her relaxing days off include working in her garden or laying on the couch demolishing pizza and pineapple soft serve ice cream. Fun fact: Andee’s favourite Cards Against Humanity white card is “Bees”?!?

GUIDING EXPERIENCE: New Zealand & Switzerland

Riki spent most of his childhood in a tiny town called Waikari in the Canterbury area, mixed with a short stint in Papua New Guinea.

Passionate about positive adventure experiences, Riki has guided in Auckland, Abel Tasman, Wanaka and Switzerland. Riki came to Queenstown to continue developing his professional career and to make the most of all the adventures in the adventure capital of the world!

When Riki isn’t working with our team on creating awesome experiences, you’ll find him obsessing over wind patterns, running off very high cliffs with a parachute or kite surfing. He literally drools over the salads at Big Fig but has no respect for lovers of pineapple on pizza!

Canyoning.co.nz and ViaFerrata.co.nz have relaunched as Canyon Explorers. Same epic team, same amazing adventures
