FULL DAY ADVANCED CANYONING EXPERIENCE
The Dart Canyon is currently closed for the 2019/2020 Season.
The Dart canyon is our most technical and advanced adventure. Experience towering canyon walls, fast-flowing water and thundering waterfalls. As the only canyoning company permitted to operate in the stunning Dart River Valley, you’ll encounter places that are normally inaccessible.
The Dart canyon is more challenging than both our Full Day Routeburn canyon and our Half Day Queenstown canyon with higher abseils and more technical features!
You’ll begin your trip at the Adventure Centre in Queenstown where you’ll sign in and meet your guides for the day in our departure lounge. Here, we share pre-trip safety information and check your suitability for the trip. We ask that you advise us of any medical, health or other safety related information before the trip departs.
From here, it is 10 minutes to the canyoning base to be fitted with all of your canyoning gear.
We then head off on a stunning scenic drive along the shores of Lake Wakatipu, passing through Glenorchy and into Mount Aspiring National Park’s Dart River Valley.
At the Dart Valley, we will get changed into the equipment provided and get you ready for your canyoning adventure. After a safety information talk, you’ll embark on an steep uphill hour-long trek (carrying your wetsuit as a pack) to reach the canyon entrance, taking in expansive views of the braided river valley below and the towering ridges of Mt. Earnslaw along the way.
After entering the canyon, you will spend 4-5 hours learning from our experienced guides how to navigate this challenging canyon. One giant feature of this canyon is a 40 metre waterfall that you abseil down!
Before heading back to Queenstown, you’ll get to relax in the beautiful surrounds of the Dart River Valley with a picnic lunch, tea and coffee. A very well-deserved treat!
This canyon is suited for people with a high level of fitness and water confidence. Previous canyoning experience or similar is advantageous. The minimum age is 18.
Specialty full-length canyoning wetsuits and jackets to provide all-over warmth and protection.
To help keep you afloat when sliding, splashing, jumping and swimming through our canyons.
Sturdy and comfortable boots and socks for scrambling up and abseiling down with confidence.
A low-profile half dome helmet for the rare occasional bump. GoPro mountings available.
We suggest a one-piece for the ladies and Derek says the less bulky boxers for the lads is best.
On those colder days, bring a baselayer. Merino wool will keep you warm when it's wet.
We are the only canyoning operator in both of our Queenstown & Dart canyons. Our adventure guides will take you to places that are normally inaccessible.
Our breath-taking canyons feature more waterfalls, natural water slides and deep, crystal clear pools than any other canyoning operator in Queenstown.
We are the most experienced canyoning operator in the Queenstown region, and the only one that provides two guides on every trip, plus personal floatation devices.
Our guides will provide a range of challenges and activities to suit your level of comfort throughout the trip.
We are big supporters of the Routeburn Dart Wildlife Trust and donate a percentage of your trip to help support scientific research to help our endangered native birds.
